Washington, D.C. Advocacy Trip Highlights

By Jay Goodart, Lawless Harley-Davidson, NPDA Vice Chairman

Recently, I had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. with the Motorcycle Industry Council on behalf of the National Powersports Dealer Association to participate in a series of meetings with members of Congress, Senate offices, congressional aides, and appointed representatives.

The purpose of the visit was to advocate for the powersports industry and discuss issues that directly impact

dealerships, manufacturers, riders, and small businesses across the country.

Throughout our time on Capitol Hill, we had the opportunity to meet with lawmakers and their staff to share the importance of the powersports industry and the role it plays in local economies through job creation, recreation, tourism, and community involvement. These conversations focused on protecting small businesses, supporting responsible legislation, and ensuring the continued growth of our industry.

One of the most rewarding parts of the trip was seeing firsthand how engaged many elected officials and their teams were in learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing powersports businesses today. It was encouraging to know our voices are being heard and that our industry continues to have representation in important legislative discussions.

The trip also allowed us to connect with fellow dealers and industry leaders from around the country, reinforcing how important it is for all of us to work together to protect and strengthen the future of powersports.

On behalf of the National Powersports Dealer Association, I would like to thank the Motorcycle Industry Council for organizing this important event and for their continued leadership and advocacy efforts on behalf of the powersports industry.

Advocacy matters, and experiences like this remind us how important it is to stay involved and engaged in shaping the future of powersports for generations to come.

The Motorcycle Industry Council’s annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In brings together leaders from across the powersports industry including dealers, aftermarket companies, and OEMs, to meet directly with Members of Congress and their senior staff. Designed to strengthen the industry's voice in Washington, the event provides an opportunity for participants to educate policymakers on the economic impact, jobs, and businesses supported by powersports while advocating for issues that affect dealers, manufacturers, suppliers, and riders nationwide.
